Yuu never really showed any interest towards opposite sex since the very first (c'mon, he practically saw Shinoa and Mitsuba almost naked and no reaction?? He is a 16 years old teenage boy, for God’s sake, and it’s not everyday he saw female’s body, right?), but he openly showed his adoration towards male counterparts (saying Yoichi looks good in his casual clothing, admiring Kimizuki and his capabilities in driving and hot wiring - and cooking probably - and don’t make me start all he has done with Mika).

Actually he treated it as something, maybe, annoying or disturbing, like when he got a love letter from a female student he saved (in chapter 2, I guess), he blushed but didn’t look happy and said he didn’t have time for that (of course, all his time is dedicated to look for Mika, the long-lost boyf… I mean, family) and he brushed off all Shinoa’s teasing…. (and from recent development we know Yuu isn’t THAT innocent since he already knew about sex since 12 years old)

I mean, in the squad, Yuu seems to have more interest with his male friends rather than the female ones. It’s only my opinion, but with Kagami-sensei himself saying Mika as ‘The Wife’ and Yuu as ‘heroine’, and then the anime producer saying Mika and Yuu as Romeo and Juliet… what else do we expect? A pure straight Yuu? Well….. I don’t know…..

If Yuu becomes the first gay shonen protagonist think about how that’ll change shonen in general? This manga might not be as popular as One Piece, Naruto or Bleach, but it’s pretty damn popular. This manga has the chance of revolutionizing all future manga and giving any future Mangaka the strength they need to make gay characters for Shonen, like sure I would love a MikaYuu ending, who wouldn’t, but I’d be okay with Yuu just stating that he’s gay. That’d be amazing on it’s own.
